Harvesting grain is an important part of the operation of John Austin Ltd.
Through harvesting of grain we have been heavily involved in testing of equipment and agronomic trials to improve maize husbandry and therefore yield. In addition, yield mapping with our combine has provided valuable management information to our clients enabling them to better understand, and therefore learn from the results of their crop production
Two John Deere STS combines (9770 and 9750 models) are available with folding, chopping maize heads.
A 6 - 9 metre platform is also available for harvesting small grains
A Geringhoff 8 row corn head provides greater stalk chopping, assisting the breakdown of stalk residue through the winter period.
John Deere Green Star Yield Mapping. Through the combine we collect yield and associated information for our precision farming programme, producing individual paddock yield maps for our customers. These maps allow farmers to quantify the affects of different management practices and yield variations within paddocks, and best determine how to maximise the overall yield of a paddock.
Two 12 tonne jockey bins as well as 25 and 30 tonne holding bins are available to assist the rapid yet gentle movement of grain from the combine to the truck and onto the dryers.

Trucks or trucks and trailers are also available for carting grain
We can also arrange the sale of grain through the local grain dryers.
